OpenAI’s response on “GPT Next”

What you need to know: Contrary to recent speculation, "GPT Next" is not a new AI model from OpenAI. The term was used metaphorically in a presentation by OpenAI Japan's CEO Tadao Nagasaki at the KDDI Summit to illustrate potential future growth of OpenAI's models. OpenAI has clarified that this was not an announcement of a specific upcoming product or timeline.

The finer details:

  • The confusion arose from Nagasaki's presentation, which included a slide with "GPT Next" in quotes and a graph showing exponential growth in AI capabilities.

  • OpenAI explained that this was meant to be a conceptual placeholder, not a concrete product announcement.

  • The graph in the presentation was also not intended to represent a definitive timeline for OpenAI's future strategies.

  • This clarification from OpenAI suggests that while the company is working on advancing its AI models, there isn't a specific "GPT Next" product in the pipeline as some had interpreted.

So what? This story highlights the importance of careful communication about AI developments, as even metaphorical representations can be misinterpreted as product announcements in the fast-paced AI industry. The incident also demonstrates the high level of interest and anticipation surrounding potential advancements in OpenAI's technology.

AI Safeguarding Measures

What you need to know: The UK has signed the first international treaty on artificial intelligence, along with the EU, US, and Israel. This legally binding agreement, known as the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, aims to prevent misuses of AI technology such as spreading misinformation and using biased data for decision-making. The treaty was developed by the Council of Europe and requires nations to implement safeguards against risks AI may pose to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The finer details:

  • The treaty mandates that countries monitor AI development and manage the technology within strict parameters.

  • It includes provisions to protect public data, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

  • The agreement will enhance existing laws and measures in the UK once ratified.

  • It's the first legally binding international treaty on AI, ensuring a united global front in managing AI risks.

  • Countries outside the Council of Europe, including the US and Australia, are invited to become signatories.

So what? The treaty signifies a major step towards global cooperation in AI governance. It demonstrates the growing recognition of AI's potential benefits and risks among world leaders. The agreement could lead to more standardised AI regulations across countries, potentially affecting AI development and deployment practices globally. While it aims to protect against AI misuse, the effectiveness of the treaty will depend on how it's implemented and enforced by individual nations. The treaty may also influence future AI-related policies and legislation in signatory countries.

YOUR 5 MIN AI LEARNING

What you need to know:  Bad Cook Club offers users straightforward recipes for creating delicious meals. These recipes are crafted to simplify cooking with tips and tricks, making it accessible even for those with little kitchen experience. Each recipe is divided into manageable steps and features step-by-step photos and videos to enhance the cooking experience. Additionally, the recipes are customised to align with users' personal tastes, preferences, and dietary requirements, ensuring that the dishes you make are moorish!

And just to clarify, I’m a great cook—so I’m sharing this tutorial to help you all out (although a certain member of the MegaSuperAI team would disagree!) There’s nothing wrong with extra help!!

Step-by-step:

  1. Visit Bad Cook Club and click the ‘Let’s Go’ button centred near the middle of the screen. After doing so, type in some ingredients that you have lying around your kitchen in the grey text box. Household staples such as pasta are a good place to start. I’ve added in tofu because it has now become one of the things that had a purpose but has now been left in my fridge waiting to be used!

  2. Once you’ve typed in the ingredients you want to use in your food, click ‘k, sure’ located underneath the text box, to the right.

  3. Next, click on the button that best captures the time you have or want to spend cooking. Once you have chosen this, click the ‘hurry up’ button.

  4. Choose whether you want a healthy option by clicking ‘healthy’ or a hearty meal by selecting ‘hungry’. When you’ve made this decision, select the pink ‘i’m starving’ button.

  5. Write down any dietary requirements you have such as gluten free or vegan, in the grey text box. Click the pink ‘get cooking’ button to start the magic!

  6. Finally, you will be given a simple recipe with minimal details to help you start your new cooking journey. I’ll be making my ‘Cheesy Tofu Stir- Fry’ for dinner tonight!

This has personally been one of my favourite AI tools we have given a guide on! Be sure to try out different combinations of ingredients and let your creativity shine—who knows, you might just invent the next culinary masterpiece or a dish that’s uniquely yours!

AI IMAGE OF THE WEEK

“The Fairy’s Nest” - By MegaSuperAI

This week’s generated image is inspired by a book I used to read when I was younger and I always loved looking at all of the fairies with their specific flowers. The drawings were always delicately drawn and dainty, so I wanted to see how close AI could get to try and capture their elegance. I think close, but I’ll have to go with the original!

The prompt we used to generate this image in Ideogram 2.0:

“A fairy in a miniature dainty house nestled in a tree with flowers where you can see inside in a whimsical watercolour fine line drawing”.
